Motorcycle Helmet Size Guide

How to Measure Your Head for the Perfect Helmet Fit

Choosing the correct motorcycle helmet size is essential for both comfort and safety. Follow these simple steps to find your ideal helmet size.

Step 1 – Get a Measuring Tape

Use a flexible measuring tape, like the type used for measuring clothing. If you don't have one, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.

Step 2 – Measure Around Your Head

Place the measuring tape around the widest part of your head, approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) above your eyebrows, just above your ears and around the back of your head.

Step 3 – Check Your Measurement

Keep the measuring tape level and comfortably snug, without pulling it too tight. Record your measurement in centimetres (cm).

Step 4 – Find Your Helmet Size

Compare your head measurement with our helmet size chart below.

Helmet Size Head Circumference
XS – Extra Small 53–54 cm
S – Small 55–56 cm
M – Medium 57–58 cm
L – Large 59–60 cm
XL – Extra Large 61–62 cm
2XL – Double Extra Large 63–64 cm

How Should Your Motorcycle Helmet Fit?

A correctly fitted motorcycle helmet should:

  • Feel snug: The helmet should fit securely around your entire head without uncomfortable pressure points.

  • Stay in position: The helmet should not move excessively when you shake your head or gently try to rotate it.

  • Feel secure around your cheeks: Your cheeks should feel gently compressed by the cheek pads.

  • Be comfortable: A new helmet may feel quite snug initially, as the interior padding will settle slightly with use.

  • Not obstruct your vision: The helmet should sit correctly on your forehead and provide a clear field of vision.

Important Helmet Fitting Advice

Never choose a helmet that is too loose. A loose-fitting helmet may move around or come off during an accident, reducing its ability to protect you.

If your measurement falls between two sizes, try both sizes where possible. Helmet fit can vary depending on the manufacturer, model and shape of your head.

Motorcycle Jacket Size Guide

How to Measure Your Chest for the Perfect Motorcycle Jacket Fit

Choosing the correct motorcycle jacket size is important for comfort, safety and freedom of movement whilst riding. Follow these simple steps to find your ideal jacket size.

Step 1 – Get a Measuring Tape

Use a flexible measuring tape, like the type used for measuring clothing. If you don't have one, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.

Step 2 – Measure Around Your Chest

Stand upright in a relaxed position with your arms resting naturally by your sides.

Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, usually just underneath your armpits and across your shoulder blades.

For the most accurate measurement, wear a thin T-shirt rather than a thick jumper or jacket.

Step 3 – Check Your Measurement

Keep the measuring tape level all the way around your chest, ensuring it is snug but not too tight.

Breathe normally and avoid expanding your chest whilst measuring.

Record your chest measurement in inches.

How Should Your Motorcycle Jacket Fit?

A correctly fitted motorcycle jacket should:

  • Feel comfortably snug: Your jacket should fit securely around your chest and shoulders without feeling restrictive.

  • Allow freedom of movement: You should be able to comfortably reach forward and hold your motorcycle handlebars.

  • Keep protective armour in position: Shoulder and elbow protectors should remain correctly positioned whilst riding.

  • Provide suitable sleeve length: Sleeves should reach your wrists when your arms are extended into your normal riding position.

  • Allow for clothing underneath: Consider whether you'll be wearing additional layers during colder weather.

  • Fit comfortably around your waist: Your jacket should sit securely without riding up excessively when seated on your motorcycle.

Important Jacket Fitting Advice

Motorcycle jackets are designed to fit more snugly than everyday casual jackets. A correctly fitted jacket helps keep protective armour in position and reduces excessive movement whilst riding.

If your chest measurement falls between two sizes, consider the next size up, particularly if you plan to wear additional layers underneath. However, always ensure the jacket and armour remain securely fitted.

A correctly fitted pair of motorcycle trousers should:

  • Feel comfortable around your waist: Your trousers should fit securely without being too tight or restricting your movement.

  • Allow freedom of movement: You should be able to comfortably bend your knees and sit on your motorcycle.

  • Keep protective armour in position: Knee and hip protectors, where fitted, should remain correctly positioned whilst riding.

  • Provide the correct leg length: Your trousers should provide adequate coverage when seated on your motorcycle, without riding excessively up your legs.

  • Allow room for additional clothing: Consider whether you'll wear thermal base layers during colder weather.

  • Fit comfortably with motorcycle boots: The trouser legs should work correctly with your riding boots without bunching excessively or leaving exposed skin.

Important Trouser Fitting Advice

Motorcycle trousers are designed to provide protection as well as comfort. A correctly fitted pair helps ensure that protective armour stays in the correct position whilst riding.

If your waist measurement falls between two sizes, consider choosing the next size up, particularly if you prefer a more relaxed fit or plan to wear additional layers underneath.

Always check your trouser fit whilst seated on your motorcycle. The knees will bend and the trouser legs may rise slightly compared with when you are standing.
